“We will be successful if we stick to basic Lean principles…”

“We will be successful if we stick to basic Lean principles rather than on what the ‘right tool of the day’ is. Go with a good solution; don’t wait for the perfect solution.” Those have been Jay McNally’s guiding insights since he joined King County’s Continuous Improvement Team as one of the two original senseis on the team.

Focus on customer value, on making value flow, and on removing waste. Focus on respect for people and continuous improvement.”

To the extent King County’s Lean journey has been successful, it has been by holding to and coaching others on those principles.

This is a picture of Jay. It is not a picture of Jay in the bear costume that he made himself and wears for special occasions.

Sadly (for us), Jay is leaving the county for a new job. We wish him the best.
