“Machines can’t train the next generation of machines”

This post provides a fascinating insight into the importance of employee-led kaizen in real Lean organizations. In it, Mitsuru Kawai of Toyota explains that manual assembly lines are being re-instituted, even though they can be 50% less efficient than fully automated lines.

The reason?

Manual lines are “vital for training engineers in kaizen;” and understanding how the process works in order to be able to make it work better.
